How it's made

Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique: the weaver binds sections of yarn, dyes them, unbinds and dyes again, then aligns thousands of threads on the loom so the pattern emerges as the cloth is woven. Tiny misalignments are unavoidable and are what give ikat its characteristic blur. On silk velvet the effect is doubled — the pile catches light differently as you move past it, so the colours shift through the day.

Every piece is different. Because the pattern is dyed into the yarn and cut by hand, the motif will sit slightly differently on your cover than on the one photographed. Colour depth also varies between dye lots. This is inherent to handwoven ikat, not a fault — but if you are matching an existing pillow exactly, email us first.

Living with it

Navy and cream is about as versatile as a strong pattern gets. It holds its own on a pale linen sofa, sits comfortably against mid-tone wood, and stops a neutral room from going flat. Pair it with plain cushions in cream or oatmeal and let the ikat do the work.

Care

Silk velvet is dry clean only. Do not machine wash, wring or tumble dry. Shake the cover out rather than beating it, and keep it out of direct sunlight for long periods — strong sun will fade silk dyes over time. If the pile flattens, a gentle steam from a distance will lift it.
