The embroidery
Silk and metal thread worked together in the same piece, which is difficult: they behave differently under tension and the metal will cut the silk if the stitches are pulled too tight. The coverage here is what accounts for the price — there is simply far more hand-work on this cover than on the others.
Living with it
Formal and ornamental. It belongs on an upholstered armchair, a wing chair or a well-dressed sofa, and it wants plain neighbours — put it next to another pattern and both lose. Good against grey, cream, and antique wood.
Care
Dry clean only. Do not machine wash — metallic thread snags and dulls. Never iron over the embroidery. Store flat; folding across dense stitching will crease the ground fabric permanently.
